Video Bitrate Checker

Free to use. Files stay on your device.

ABOUT THIS TOOL

Inspect a video before sharing or converting it. Read its overall bitrate, dimensions and duration, with codec and track details where available.

How it works

  1. Choose a video. Drop the file you want to inspect. The tool reads its container and available track information on your device.

  2. Review the report. Check the overall bitrate, dimensions and duration. Supported containers also show video and audio codec details and estimated track statistics.

  3. Decide your next step. Use the figures to compare exports or investigate a large file. Open Video Compressor if you want to try reducing its size.

Formats and useful details

Input

Common video containers including MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and M4V.

Output

An on-page report; the source video is not re-encoded.

Good to know

Overall bitrate is calculated from file size and duration. Video and audio track statistics sample up to 200 packets per track. Some files expose only duration, dimensions and overall bitrate through the browser’s player.

Processed on your device

Your selected files are processed on your device by the browser-based converter. Available formats and conversion speed depend on your browser, the file’s encoding, and your device. Large files may require more memory.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between overall and video bitrate?

Overall bitrate includes the complete file, including audio and container overhead. The video figure estimates the picture track separately. Their values are not expected to match exactly.

Does a higher bitrate always mean better video quality?

No. Codec, resolution, frame rate, source detail and encoder settings also matter. Treat the tool’s rating as a rough comparison guide, then inspect the video itself.

Why are some codec or frame-rate fields missing?

If the container cannot be fully parsed, the tool uses information exposed by the browser’s video player. That fallback can provide fewer details. Track bitrate and frame-rate values are estimates from sampled packets.
